Ever since the Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo DS, clamshell handhelds have been quite popular with gamers. New retro handhelds like Anbernic's RG35XXSP are no exception. That’s why the streamer Bob Wulff has now created a clamshell version of the Lenovo Legion Go.

Accessory Handheld Gaming Retro
Clamshell handhelds have captured the hearts of many gamers ever since the Game Boy Advance SP and the Nintendo DS. The foldable clamshell design made sure that the screen wouldn't scratch or even crack easily, which may be one of the reasons why the DS is the most successful and best-selling handheld ever.
Retro handhelds are also rediscovering the clamshell form factor. Anbernic's RG35XXSP, the Miyoo Flip 2 and Powkiddy's V90 are just three examples. Even in the smartphone sector, clamshells are staging a comeback. The Samsung Galaxy Flip series, Nokia 2660 and Motorola Razr are worth mentioning in this regard.
How the Lenovo Legion Go was turned into a clamshell handheld
Streamer Bob Wulff explains that he always wanted to turn the Legion Go into a handheld reminiscent of a netbook, but with a gamepad instead of a keyboard. The entire project took about 1.5 years as he tinkered with many prototypes before he was satisfied with his so-called “Legion Go Clam”. The large buttons are particularly striking and look like ones found on special controllers for beat 'em ups. More details about the Legion Go Clam are explained in the video embedded below.
Bob Wulff doesn't plan to make money with his project, which is why he’s providing a free tutorial for the clamshell conversion of the Legion Go. Anyone who’s interested in this project can find links to all components for the controller and 3D printer models for the chassis on Github. Of course, a Lenovo Legion Go is also required.
